HOW TO TURN YOUR TALENT INTO A BUSINESS

If you are not caught in the frenzy of football then you are missing out. We support football clubs, players and teams. If it's not soccer its movies. I will watch any movie with Denzel Washington, Will Smith of Angelina Jolie. If you examine all your life activities, you will discover that you ae a consumer of great talents. Even as a builder of houses you consume a talent of cement manufacturing called Dangote. Your cell phone is someone's talent. The applications on your computer are talents. All of life is an ecumenical metropolis of trade and exchange of talents at a perceived value.

The difference between poor people and rich people is their use of talents. What is stopping you from joining the trade or commerce?

Starting a business around your talent is the cheapest form of venture capital. We have been brain washed to think that entrepreneurial activities require meticulous business plans with great market penetration strategies birthed at a place called Harvard or London School of Business (or UNZA and CBU for that matter). To the contrary all success was birthed under the tutelage of a midwife called courage, a hospital called faith and a first level clinician called self belief.

People always write to me and ask: "Mubita what can I do with K2,000 or what must I do with my life?"

Start a business around your talent. The service industry is pregnant with potential and needs someone to induce and indulge it.

People will laugh at you believe me. Some people have a calling. Their passion is driven by a spirit of doubting Thomas. They always critic others as arm chair critics even though they don't even own a chair.

You may have many talents like me but not all talents are ready for the market place. Some are just hobbies and must remain as such. Choose the cash cow (Boston Matrix) and take it to the market place.

As I alluded to you a few days ago I am a software engineer. I write codes and design websites. I used to run a business around this years ago but I realised I did not enjoy it as much. So I closed it.

I am also a great chef and designer of food menus specifically meant for the weary soul. I want to open a great restaurant one day on a large scale. But my greatest talent is speaking and talking and writing. This is what has brought eminence in my life.

People will ridicule you. At a wedding six months ago one couple sent word to me via their mungulu friend. "Mubita that couple does not like your jokes. They say they cant stand their reputable motivational speaker cracking jokes and being funny." I told him to go and tell them that this is my talent and they have to talk to God not me.

I do 40 weddings each year as Master of Ceremonies. I am great at it. Through it we have built a great business. I have been doing it for 22years now.

Believe in your talent. Never look down on anything that brings food and pays bills. Especially if it also makes you happy. If Mark Zuckerberg had met some Africans before he started a business around his talent, there would be no Facebook.

Start small, build small and be efficient.
Enjoy the ride. Always remember we are not here to please everyone. We are hear to reveal the glory of God in our talents.

I look forward to meeting you in the marketplace. Your greatest capital is your talent. Your second greatest capital is your salary. There is no collateral required to finance this. Just a good meal and a clean set of clothes and your activated greatness will be realised. Yes it may sound simple. That's because it is. Never complicate the obvious. Remember form follows function. Money follows talent. And money never says where it came from.

Enjoy the journey. My name is Mubita Christopher Nawa. I get paid for giving people hope and for making them laugh.
