ISIEC Accused of Electoral Violations and Illicit Fees
Owerri, Imo State - October 2, 2024
The Imo Concern Citizens' for Electoral Integrity and Good Governance (ICCEIGG) strongly condemns the blatant disregard for electoral laws displayed by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC). Before the September 21st local government elections, ISIEC demanded and collected illicit fees from candidates under the guise of revalidation.
This unethical practice undermines the integrity of the electoral process and perpetuates a culture of corruption. ICCEIGG demands that ISIEC immediately refunds all monies collected from candidates.
Electoral Violations and Illicit Fees: A Call to Action
ISIEC's actions contravene the principles of transparency and accountability, fundamental to democratic elections. We urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate these allegations and ensure ISIEC is held accountable.
ICCEIGG will not relent in seeking refunds for affected candidates and justice for the electoral violations. We call on all stakeholders, including the Imo State government, to support our efforts in this direction.
Together, we can build a more transparent and accountable electoral process.
