THE UZUKO UMUIHUOCHA LEADERSHIP CONTROVERSY: A THREAT TO COMMUNITY PROGRESS

Uzuko Umuihuocha, an Umunna sub-association, originally established under the leadership of the late Eze Alilonu to oversee local community development projects within the community. Unfortunately, the chairmanship of Uzuko Umuihuocha, currently held by Chief Emma Nneji, has been marred by allegations of self-interest, mismanagement, and outright disregard for the community's well-being.

A Pattern of Divisive Behavior

One of the most egregious examples of Chief Nneji's divisive behavior is his role in instigating the conflict between Umuihuocha and Umuosuocha families. At a time when Dr. Paul Obasi and other major stakeholders were working tirelessly to resolve the land dispute at the proposed Federal Health Center site, Chief Nneji allegedly sabotaged their efforts by proposing that the late Eze demolish the building at the site without compensation. This reckless act has resulted in the land remaining in dispute to this day, denying the community a much-needed standard federal health center.

Mismanagement of Community Funds and Resources

Chief Nneji's leadership has also been characterized by the mismanagement of community funds and resources. A notable example is the town hall building contract, which he took over and allegedly diverted materials for personal use. The original plan, initiated by the former Town Union leadership under Chief T.N. Eze, was to build an upstairs town hall, complete with iron rods for decking and aluminum profiles for windows. Under Chief Nneji's watch, these materials have gone unaccounted for, leaving the community to wonder about the fate of their investments.

Illegal Sale of Community Assets

In another blatant display of disregard for community interests, Chief Nneji allegedly sold community public utilities without approval. This transaction was only reversed after the intervention of the Town Union Leadership while some stakeholders, who wisely paid back the money to the buyers and recovered the vandalized items.

Expiration of Uzuko Umuihuocha's Authority

It is essential to note that Uzuko Umuihuocha's authority expired after the one-year memorial and mourning of the late Eze. Consequently, the association lacks the power to convene meetings or select the screening/election committee for the new Ezeship election. Any attempts by Chief Nneji or Uzuko Umuihuocha to exert influence over the election process should be viewed with skepticism, given their history of self-serving actions.

Upcoming Revelation on the Screening Committee

The community eagerly awaits the unveiling of the purported screening committee for the Ezeship election. This revelation will shed light on any attempts to bypass due process and ensure the election remains a fair and transparent process.

The Need for Transparency and Accountability

The community must remain vigilant and ensure that the selection process for the new Eze is transparent, fair, and guided by the constitution. The future of Umuihuocha depends on it. Community members must demand accountability from their leaders and work towards a brighter future for all.

Conclusion

The Uzuko Umuihuocha leadership controversy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible leadership and community involvement. As Umuihuocha prepares for the Ezeship election, it is crucial for the community to come together and ensure a fair and transparent process. Only through collective action can Umuihuocha overcome the challenges of the past and build a brighter future for generations to come.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Umuihuocha Obohia Autonomous Community Ezeship election process, including the unveiling of the screening committee and the efforts of the community to ensure a transparent and fair selection process.
